Innovation and the ability to be innovative is a precondition for teaching and education to be on the leading edge of developments at all times.Trade and industry promotion, development, and applied research therefore pervade all professional activities at AU-IBT. But the organisational centre of rotation for AU-IBT's competence centrework is primarily 6 competence centres and a PhD project group.The centres are organised in physical units to bring them into focus at AU-IBT and to direct attention to them in relation to the business community, education and research co-operators and external grant authorities.
The following competence centres are found at University of Aarhus, Institute of Business and Technology:
DUWET
DUWET supports competence development in the Danish wind energy sector and thereby works to maintain and create jobs in the wind energy sector in Denmark.
AU-IBT's Business University AU-IBT's Business University works with commercial activities within consultancy, different consulting services and tailored courses/workshops. The purpose is to make the VIP employees' knowledge available to businesses and others on conditions tailored to the needs of the individual customer.
Centre for Integrated IT Development (CITU)
CITU is a knowledge centre for small embedded IT systems and its purpose is to stimulate and improve the ability to innovate at AU-IBT in connection with the implementation of its projects. At the same time, the centre is an innovative, practice-oriented and dynamic knowledge and competence centre for integrated IT development in close cooperation with the business community.

Centre for Powerline Communications (CPC)
CPC collects, develops and communicates knowledge about powerline technology for the benefit of organisations, educational institutions and the consumers.
