At AU-IBT, we offer three research programs in renewable energy power plants on Bachelor and Master level. We invite foreign students to a research stay at AU-IBT for the duration of one semester.
You have the possibility to learn both theory and practice within our three research areas. AU-IBT is part of an international research network in micro power plants based on renewable energy. The three programs include:
Wind turbines: Small stand-alone wind turbines from 500 to 5,000 W for domestic supply of electricity.
Hydrogen Fuel Cells: Small stand-alone hydrogen system that converts electricity from wind turbines or solar systems into hydrogen, which is stored in tanks. When electricity is needed, the hydrogen is pumped through the hydrogen fuel cell, thus converting the gas into electricity and hot water.
Solar cells: Solar cell system that converts the sun's energy into electricity by use of photoelectric effect.
For several years, AU-IBT has designed and constructed small, practical energy plants in collaboration with our foreign exchange students, e.g. our 500 W and our 5,000 W wind turbine.
A typical course consists of a theoretical lecture. The students are put in groups of 2 to 4 persons and are then given the practical task of designing and building a fully functional unit. The course is concluded with measurement tests of the construction to verify that it works.
